South Korean doubles star Lee Yong-dae and his new partner Shin Baek-choel are through to the semi-finals of the 2009 Yonex German Open after beating Japanese qualifiers Naoki Kawamae and Shoji Sato, 21-14, 12-21, and 21-15 yesterday. Today, the fifth-seeded pair will face England's Robert Blair and Chris Adcock.
In the mixed doubles event, Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung, having also advanced to the semi-final, will meet Zheng Bo and Ma Jin of China. The top-seeded pair beat Chris Adcock and Gabrielle White, 23-21, 21-15 in the quarter-final.
In the same event, Lee Hyo-jung and her women's doubles partner Lee Kyung-won will face Cheng Shu and Zhao Yunlei of China. They overcame Valeria Sorokina and Nina Vislova of Russia, 21-13, 18-21, and 21-15.
In the men's singles, Wong Choong Hann, seeded third, surprisingly lost to China's qualifier Chen Long 21-9, 19-21, and 16-21. Chen will meet fellow national Gong Weijie in the semi-final.
